SURGICAL WEIGHT REDUCTION
Gastric Banding limits and reduces food ingestion without interfering with the digestive process. A hollow band made out of a special material is placed around the stomach towards its upper end, creating a smaller container and a narrower duct in the part of the stomach that is left. The narrower duct slows down the emptying of the food from the “smaller stomach” and produces the feeling of being full. The band can be loosened or tightened to change the size of the duct.

The first instance of the bag has a food capacity of more or less 1 oz. and is usually expanded to 2 or 3 oz. As with any other surgery, patients undergo several rigorous evaluations and tests before the surgeon can determine whether the operation is feasible or not.
